Our planet is running a fever! The temperature is on the rise and the climate of our planet is changing at a rapid pace. What does this change mean to us?

Explanation

Climate change is a real and undeniable threat to our civilization. The effects are already visible and will be catastrophic unless we act now. We need to educate ourselves and the next generation about climate change, encourage innovation and ingenuity to find solutions. This question offers a great chance for you to motivate your child to be environmentally aware and active by discussing climate change.

Guidance

  • To understand how a 1-degree Celsius increase in global temperature can affect our planet, you can use an analogy about your child’s own body temperature. When our body temperature rises 1 degree Celsius, it can make us feel ill. An increase of 5 degrees Celsius could lead to an urgent hospital visit. Earth’s rising temperature can affect lives and livelihoods with an equivalent magnitude of urgency.
  • You can talk to your child about the changes in our climate and why they are taking place. You can evaluate the situation and what it all means to us with your kid. You might mention the increased occurrence of fires, floods, hurricanes, and other natural disasters and how these events are the result of global warming.
  • Taking action on climate change can help make the world a better place for all of us. While individuals alone won’t be able to make truly dramatic cuts in carbon emissions, each of us can work towards a better future by acting as active citizens.
